TRINITY, Texas - The Kansas State men's golf team finished third-round play Saturday at the 2012 Big 12 Championships in ninth place at the par 72, 7,330-yard Whispering Pines Golf Club.

Following two rounds on Friday and Saturday's single round, the Wildcats sit at 54-over par 918. Entering the day at 35-over par, K-State finished Saturday's 18 holes at 19-over par 307. The Wildcats enter Sunday's fourth and final round just five strokes shy of eighth place.

"We simply did not have it today," head coach Tim Norris said. "It is too bad to do it at the conference tournament. It is the biggest and best tournament we play with the best competition all season. It was a short turn around, and I think we were just zapped after the long day yesterday. It's part of the experience."

K-State's Kyle Weldon leads the squad in 21st place after carding a 5-over par 77 on Saturday. Added to his 5-over par 149 from Friday, he now sits with a 10-over par 226 going into Sunday's final round. Two strokes behind Weldon is Curtis Yonke, who sits in 30th place after shooting a 7-over par 79 on the day.

Ben Juffer was the top Wildcat on Saturday by carding a 4-over par 76 to add to his 13-over par 157 from Friday to sit tied for 38th place after three rounds with a 17-over par 233. David Klaudt climbed the leaderboard three spots on Saturday to end the day tied for 42nd place with a 19-over par 235. Rounding out K-State's lineup, Kyle Smell ended the day tied for 46th place after shooting a 9-over par 81 on Saturday.

No. 15 Texas A&M continues to lead the championship field after Saturday's round, carding a 2-under par 286 on the day. Combined with its 6-over par 582 on Friday, the Aggies sit with a 4-over par 868 going into Sunday's final round. Oklahoma's Abraham Ancer also held on to his individual lead during Saturday's third round after shooting a 3-under par 69 on Saturday. He holds a 6-under par 210 score going into Sunday.

"We have an opportunity tomorrow in the final round to go out and play a good solid round," Norris said. "You have to be sharp at this tournament. These teams are awfully good."

K-State it paired with Kansas for the fourth and final round of the Big 12 Championships, teeing off from holes No. 1 and No. 10 on Sunday at 8 a.m. Live statistics and scoring of the event is available at www.golfstat.com, with updates being found at the Big 12 Championship headquarters at www.big12sports.com.
