MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team turned in a 38-over 902 to finish in second place in the 2013 Jim Colbert Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,486-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course on Tuesday.

K-State entered the day with a two-stroke lead over eventual tournament winner, Sam Houston State, but the Bearkats carded the best score of the final round - a 12-over 300 - to defeat the Wildcats by two strokes.

"We just came up a little short today," said head coach Tim Norris. "It was really disappointing to give up the lead, but I think some good things came out of it. We had two excellent days to evaluate our game and where it is. If we can string together three good rounds next week in Akron, we will be in a good spot."

Competing as an individual, Alex Carney placed in the top-five for the first time of his Wildcat career as he finished in second place at 3-over 219.

Matt Green led the K-State scoring lineup as he finished in fourth place after carding a 5-over 221. Green has now earned four top-five finishes through his first two seasons in Manhattan. Daniel Wood joined his Wildcat teammate in the top-five as he carded a 9-over 225 to earn fifth-place honors, the second time in as many years that he has finished in the top-give in the Colbert Intercollegiate.

Kyle Weldon earned the fourth top-10 finish of his collegiate career on Tuesday after firing a 12-over 228 to end the event in eighth place. Rounding out the scoring lineup for K-State were Tyler Norris and David Klaudt. Norris carded a final-round 76 to finish in a tie 13th place at 16-over 232. Klaudt tied for 17th place after recording an 18-over 234.

Freshmen Seth Smith and Connor Knabe, playing solely as individuals, finished tied for 21st and 23rd. respectively. Smith turned in a 19-over 235 while Knabe notched a 20-over 236.

Zach Cabra of SHSU finished atop the individual leaderboard as he fired a 3-under 213.

The Wildcats will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday as they head east to compete in the 2013 Firestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
