SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Kansas State men’s golf team finished up the final round of play Tuesday at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in 14th place under perfect conditions at the par 71, 6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club.

The Wildcats
ended the event by carding a 45-over par 897 through three rounds. During Tuesday’s final round, the Wildcats shot a 17-over par 301 to fall to 14th place.

"We have obviously things to work on
,” head coach Tim Norris said. Overall, we keep moving forward, keep looking ahead and try to get better. A higher finish would have been better. Five or six shots better and we would have had a middle of the pack finish, which would have been pretty respectable."

The Texas Tech
Red Raiders finished first in the invitational, carding a 5-over par 857, including a 4-under par 280 during Tuesday’s final round. Texas Tech’s Clement Sordet and Baylor's Joakim Mikkelsen were the top overall performers as both shot a 3-under par 210 for the tournament, including a 3-under par 68 during the final round.

Junior Curtis Yonke and senior Kyle Smell led the Wildcats during the two-day event. Yonke shot a 3-over par 74 in the third round and combined for a 9-over par 222 to tie for 37th. Smell shot a 2-over par 73 in round three to finish at 10-over par 223 and tie for 42nd.

Rounding out the Wildcat lineup were freshman Kyle Weldon and juniors Chase Chamberlin and Ben Juffer. Weldon turned in a 7-over par 78 round, bringing his total score to 15-over par 228 to tie for 59th. Chamberlin finished the day with a 5-over par 76 performance
to total a 16-over par 229 and tie for 63rd. Juffer shot 9-over par 80 in round three, as he finished one stroke behind Chamberlin to tie for 65th.

“This was a mean little golf course
,” said Norris. Not very long 6,700-plus yards. It will really penalize you if you do not hit a precise iron shot and position the ball below the hole so you are not putting down hill. We will get back at it next Monday and Tuesday. Getting that first tournament under your belt can give the players a truer perspective on what tournaments are like."

The Wildcats will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday as they head to Houston, Texas
, to compete in the Rice Intercollegiate at Westwood Country Club.
