MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team will continue its spring slate this weekend as the Wildcats will compete in the 2014 Wyoming Desert Collegiate, February 21-23, at the 7,305-yard, par-72 The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The event will consist of 18 holes of play on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

"The Classic Club is a big course with lots of yardage but it also has some room off the tee to hit the driver," said head coach Tim Norris. "The Arnold Palmer design hosted the PGA Tour's Bob Hope Classic from 2006-2008. The course is in a windy area of Palm Desert, so I would not be surprised if we had a day or two with something stronger than a breeze. The tournament falls at a good time in our season in that with just 18 holes per day, we will have plenty of time to prepare for each round the following day."

The Wildcat scoring lineup will be comprised of Daniel Wood, Kyle Weldon, Seth Smith, David Klaudt and Alex Carney. Freshman Connor Knabe will be competing as an individual.

Wood and Weldon are coming off a pair of top-20 finishes as the duo placed 12th and 15th, respectively, in last week's UTSA Oak Hills Invitational. Wood carded a 9-over 222 to record his fourth top-20 finish of the season, while Weldon earned his third top-20 finish as he turned in a 10-over 223.

Playing in the third event of his freshman season, Smith moved up last week's leaderboard 17 spots from round two to round three and tied for 44th place at 18-over 231. Klaudt and Carney will look to bounce back from a disappointing start to the spring season this weekend in California. The duo ended last week's event tied for 65th and tied for 72nd, respectively.

Knabe has played in two events this season with his best finish coming in the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate, where he tied for 23rd place at 20-over 236.

In addition to the Wildcats, the event field will include Arkansas-Little Rock, Cal Poly, Colorado, Denver, George Mason, Idaho, Iowa State, Kansas, Louisiana Monroe, Loyola Marymount, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, TCU, Texas Tech, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, UT Arlington and Wyoming.

Updates from The Classic Club will be available at kstatesports.com following each day of competition, while course and tournament information can be found at classicclubgolf.com.
