MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team will travel to the west coast for the second time in as many weeks to compete in the 2014 Del Walker Intercollegiate, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-70, 6,582-yard Virginia Country Club in Long Beach, Calif.
Monday's first and second rounds will begin with an 8:30 a.m. (PST), shotgun start, while Tuesday's final round will get underway beginning at 8 a.m. (PST).
"This is another traditional, tree-lined course similar to Oak Hills in San Antonio that we played a few weeks ago," said head coach Tim Norris. "It has a great reputation in southern California as one of the best as several PGA Tour professionals from the area are members there. It is great to see two freshmen, Seth Smith and Connor Knabe, earn spots in the top 5. I feel our team is trending in the right direction, and I am anxious to see them compete on this course."
The K-State scoring lineup will consist of Daniel Wood, Knabe, Smith, Kyle Weldon and Alex Carney, while Tyler Norris will compete as an individual.
Wood is coming off a top-30 finish as he tied for 26th place in last week's Wyoming Desert Collegiate at 2-under 214. Knabe and Smith will be playing together as a part of the Wildcat scoring lineup for the first time this season. The duo ended last week's event tied for 36th and 68th place, respectively.
Weldon and Carney will look to get back on track after a disappointing finish in Palm Desert last week. Norris will be playing in his first event of the spring after carding a 78.58 scoring average during four events in the fall.
In addition to Kansas State, the event field will also include Arizona, Colorado State, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Denver, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, Minnesota, UC Santa Barbara and Wichita State.
