MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Big 12 Conference announced the recipients of its highest academic honor this week and seven Kansas State Wildcats made the grade in receiving the Dr. Gerald Lage Award.

A total of 75 student-athletes from conference institutions received the award as K-State’s rowing team had the most recipients with three followed by two football players and two men’s golfers.

Representing the rowing team were Katie Arrow, a senior majoring in management, Allison Dorau, a junior elementary education major and Samantha McCloud, a senior earning her master’s degree in architecture.

Football was represented by Ethan Hammes, a senior studying agriculture business, and Jared Loomis, a senior civil engineering major.

David Klaudt, a junior accounting major, and Daniel Wood, a junior majoring in social sciences, received the award for the men’s golf team.

In order to be eligible for the Dr. Gerald Lage Award, student-athletes must have lettered at least once in their career while maintaining residence at their institution for at least one academic year. The honoree, which can only be recognized once, should have 100 hours of earned credit with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 at the time of nomination.

The award is named in memory of Lage, who served as the Oklahoma State faculty athletics representative with the NCAA and the Big Eight/Big 12 Conference from 1983 until his death in 2007.

Lage had been a member of the Oklahoma State family since 1966, when he joined the College of Business Administration as an assistant professor. During his tenure at OSU, he served as the director of graduate studies in the department of economics, head of the department of economics and finance, directory of the OSU Center for International Trade and Development, and associate dean for research and graduate programs in the college of business administration.

The Dr. Gerald Lage Award winners will be recognized at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships.
