MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team will head to Goodyear, Ariz., to compete in the 2014 Desert Shootout, Thursday-Saturday, at the par-72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Country Club. Thursday's first round and Friday's second round will begin with an 8 a.m. (MT), shotgun start, while Saturday's final round will get underway with a 7:30 a.m. (MT), shotgun start.
"Palm Valley is a solid test of golf," said head coach Tim Norris. "The greens are usually firm, so hitting from the fairway as well as distance control with the irons will be very important. Great course conditions and perfect weather conditions make for low scores every year."
With practice time between now and the start of the tournament, Norris has yet to name a final scoring lineup, but seniors Alex Carney, David Klaudt, Tyler Norris and Daniel Wood, junior Kyle Weldon and freshmen Connor Knabe and Seth Smith will all make the trip to Arizona.
"I have been encouraged with practice over the past few days, and it has been nice to establish a rhythm leading up to the event. It seems that our four, five and six men are getting their games in order," Norris said.
In addition to the Wildcats, the field for this year's event will include Bowling Green, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Columbia, Creighton, Denver (individuals only), Drake, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Kansas, UMKC, Long Beach State, Nebraska, Northern Iowa and Southern Utah.
Updates from the 2014 Desert Shootout will be available at kstatesports.com as soon as they are made available following each day of competition.
