MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team will return to the Grand Canyon State for the second time in three weeks to compete in the 2014 Wyoming Cowboy Classic, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The event's first two rounds will be held on Monday, while final-round action is slated for Tuesday. Both days of play will begin with a 7:30 a.m. (PT) shotgun start.
"I was very encouraged by the play at Palm Valley a few weeks ago as we finished at 23-under par over the final 36 holes," said head coach Tim Norris. "I see better execution in our practices and think another trip to the Phoenix area will be successful. Talking Stick is an interesting desert style layout, despite being built on flat terrain. Placement off the tee will be important as many holes do not require a driver."
In the Wildcats' last event before competing in the 2014 Big 12 Championship, the K-State scoring lineup will consist of Kyle Weldon, Daniel Wood, David Klaudt, Seth Smith and Connor Knabe. Weldon and Klaudt were members of the team that won this event in 2012.
"Kyle, Daniel and David have played the course in the past so we will be depending on them to use that course knowledge to shave a few shots off each round. I continue to be impressed with Seth and Connor and their growth as freshmen golfers from the fall season to the present."
In addition to the K-State, the field for this year's event will include BYU, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Colorado, Gonzaga, Idaho, Oklahoma, Old Dominion, Santa Clara, Southern Utah, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, UT-Pan American, UTSA, Weber State and Wyoming.
Live scoring will be available on golfstat.com, while updates from the 2014 Wyoming Cowboy Classic will be available at kstatesports.com as soon as they are made available following each day of competition.
