MANHATTAN, Kan. - Cullen Carstens, who has served as an assistant at both Oklahoma State and Jacksonville State, has been hired as an assistant coach for the Kansas State men's golf program, head coach Grant Robbins announced Tuesday.

Carstens, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs at Jacksonville State, is no stranger to the Big 12 as he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Oklahoma State from 2009-11. He traveled with both the men's and women's teams to numerous events as well as helping with recruiting efforts and developing various practice drills and competitions to help player development for both programs.

"I'm very excited that Cullen has decided to become part our K-State men's golf staff," Robbins said. "Cullen brings a wealth of experience at many different levels. He is very familiar with the Big 12 through his time at Oklahoma State, and he helped Jacksonville State record their best season in school history. Cullen is a great addition to K-State golf."

Between stints at JSU and OSU, Carstens gained professional experience as he was a caddy for Peter Uihlein on the European Professional Golf Association and European Challenge Professional Golf tours. In addition, Carstens caddied at the 2011 Transitions Championships, 2011 AT&T National and the 2012 Puerto Rico Open PGA tour events.

"I am very excited to be in Manhattan and to be a part of the Kansas State men's golf program," Carstens said. "I grew up in Big 12 country, so to be a part of the Wildcat family is very special to me. Coach Robbins is a fantastic coach and I look forward to working with him to help bring K-State to prominence not only in the Big 12 but on the national stage as well."

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Carstens played collegiately for his father, Randy, at Missouri Baptist University. He was named an NAIA Academic All-American in 2006 and 2007 in addition to being a First Team All-American Midwest Conference selection in 2004 and 2007. He also earned NAIA Region V First Team All-Region accolades in 2004 after claiming medalist honors at the regional tournament.

Carstens graduated from MBU with a Bachelor's of Marketing/Business Administration in 2007. Following graduation, he worked as an operations intern with the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) as he coordinated and directed 10 national junior golf tournaments across the nation and was in charge of volunteers at events and served as a rule official during those tournaments.
