MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's golf team continues its fall schedule Monday and Tuesday as the Wildcats will compete in the 2013 Firestone Invitational at the prestigious par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
The Wildcats are coming off of their first top-five finish of the year as they ended the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate in second place. In the event, K-State placed four individuals in the top 10.
"It is always a treat to play one of the finest layouts in the Midwest," said Norris. "There is a lot of professional golf history at Firestone. The South course may be more famous, but the locals tell us each year that the North course is just as good a test of golf. We have yet to put together three good, solid rounds this fall, but when we do, I am confident that we will be right near the top after 54 holes."
The K-State scoring lineup for next week will feature Alex Carney, Matt Green, Daniel Wood, Kyle Weldon and Tyler Norris.
Carney and Green are coming off very successful finishes in the Colbert Intercollegiate as Carney fired a 3-over 219 to finish in second place, and Green carded 5-over 221 to capture fourth-place honors.
Weldon and Wood were a part of the scoring lineup that registered a sixth-place finish in last season's Firestone Invitational. The duo ended the event in a tie for 30th place after recordinng an overall score of 5-over 149.
Norris earned his best finish of the season in the Colbert Intercollegiate after he tied for 13th place at 16-over 232.
