Kansas State vs. Texas Tech
Head Coach and Player Quotes

Kansas State Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening Statement...
“It was a great Kansas State women’s basketball day with our 2004 Big 12 championship team in the house as we competed.  It was just fantastic to have them here.  I cannot say enough about what that means to our program.  As it relates to this game, what really stands out to me is how we had so many players come off the bench or come in and out of the game in critical situations and just make up their mind that they were going to contribute positively and find something good to do to assist their team.  I thought the play of Brianna Craig today was big for us.  Her second half play was really good and it kept us in offense.  She had a tempo to her that really disrupted Texas Tech in that segment where we were working to get back into the game.  The last four minutes we were down six and we had struggled in situations like that when the game is close.  We made a good push and I am proud of our team for that improvement.  We really had not seen that since the Oklahoma game.”

On getting a win…
“It is always great. You are always pressing it.  I thought we had a great opportunity against Texas and we fell short.  Having that chance to bounce back and play in Bramlage was very big and it is great to have that feeling and now we understand the challenge we have against Texas Christian University on the road.”

On the last few minutes of the game…
“Those are the kind of plays that we talk about, how you have to make your charge at some point offensively when the game is tight.  You have to just dig in and just make a couple of plays.  In that situation we were absolutely huge.  It started with Leti’s (Romero) floater, but then that three-pointer by Katya (Leick) was absolutely huge as a follow up.  All of a sudden we are right back in the game and putting the pedal down on them and it feels completely different.  It seems obvious that if you make those two shots the game changes, but there is more to it than that.  It is your team learning how to step up and make those plays under that kind of pressure.  That really feels good to all of us.”

Freshman Guard Leticia Romero
On her game today…
“The last couple of games I was a little inconsistent and I knew this game was really important for us.  We needed a win and I think we all stepped up, even those that came off the bench and that is what made us win.  It was team play.”

On playing against her friend, Marina Lizarazu…
“It is weird playing against her here because we are surrounded by American players and it is kind of weird, but I really enjoy it.  We are very good friends and we enjoy playing together and against one another.”

Sophomore Guard Brianna Craig
On her performance…
“We needed a win today so I think everybody just had that inside themselves and knew that we needed to make plays down the stretch.  When I came in I wanted to make sure I maximized my minutes.  We went into an offense where it was something that I really enjoy doing.  The back cut came and I got the shot that I needed to hit the three.  I feel like we all just stepped up today and came out with the win, so it was good team play.”

On having the Big 12 championship team at Bramlage…
“We visited a little bit this morning and then after the game in the locker room and we shared some words.  It was really cool to have them around and know that they were such a successful team and it is definitely something that we want to strive for.  We do a victory dance after each win so we were comparing what they did to what we do and we showed them a little bit about how we celebrate.”

Texas Tech Coach Quotes

Head Coach Candace Whitaker
On the ending to the game…
“I will have to go back and look at all of it. We had some key turnovers late, missed a lay-up at the rim late and we did not guard very well.”

On Leti Romero…
“She is a very good player, a gamer. She will put the team on her back if she needs to.”

On finding balance with the three-point shot…
“It is tough. You just try to focus on things that you can control and move forward.”
