Texas Tech at Kansas State
Kansas State Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement…
“I am extremely proud of our basketball team and very excited to see Brittany Chambers and Mariah White leave Bramlage floor, in their last game here in Big 12 play, with a victory. It was just a tremendous effort by our basketball team. I was proud of how hard we competed every minute of the game and that is something we have worked extremely hard to become consistent at and tonight it required the full 40 and we battled extremely hard. Rebounding is always such a big element and tonight we went nip and tuck with Texas Tech on the boards, which I thought was a huge factor and we were also aggressive getting to the rim. Brittany was just extraordinary, as always, and refused to lose. She brought a very smart and intelligent, but aggressive, disposition to her decisions on the offensive end. When she does that, all things come together and it is really a sight to behold. It was just great to see her and Mariah have this opportunity to play such a high quality 40 minutes with their teammates in our last regular season Big 12 game at home.”

On halftime adjustments…
“We were stagnate for eight or nine minutes. We had some difficulties staying active. Their matchup or their defense caused some confusion at times and I thought we got a little passive. I am not sure the play-calling was helping at the point. I think we missed some layups during that segment that could have helped change the game a little bit, but I was proud of the fact that we did not let them get a run. We did not let them get away from us. We did not get down emotionally. We just learned how to compete through that drought. That is a tough thing to do, especially when you are competing against a team that has won 21 games. I thought mentally our team was just so determined and focused to complete the next possession, to not allow that drought to get us down and to do the little things, keep rebounding and keep working to make stops. I remember it being 27-27 and thinking this was going to be a close finish at half, if we are lucky, and we did a good job keeping it close.”

Senior Guard Brittany Chambers
On the second half…
“We were just trying to be more aggressive. They turned to that zone and I think in the first half, like Coach said, we were kind of stand-still for a while and not moving. We wanted to continue to attack them and go at them and then when you attack your three point shot comes along with it, easy kick outs and things like that. Just being more aggressive and taking it at them instead of letting them come at us.

On her energy during the game…
“It was not just me. From the beginning of the game to the end our energy on the court was probably the best it has been throughout a whole game. It did not matter if we may not score for five minutes and if we made a basket everyone was still getting excited. Just not letting the little things on the court that could affect you, affect us and that was really, really big on our whole team’s part.”

On the emotions of senior day before the game…
“Well, my dad kind of joked with me before the game about how I am always emotional. If we are on the court, I am an emotional player, so he said it could play in my favor, crying before the game. I think that Mariah and I have been through everything together. We have started the game and been through a lot of adversities. Something like senior night, where it is a happy kind of cry and a happy thing, I did not think it would bother us tonight and it did not.”

Senior Guard Mariah White
On senior day…
“It feels good to get a win because last year we could not for the all the senior we had last year. I felt that this win was not only for Brittany and me, but also Brandy (Brown), Jalana (Childs), Emma (Ostermann) and all the other seniors. I kind of feel like it was a great win for us.

Texas Tech Coach & Player Quotes
Texas Tech Head Coach Kristy Curry
On Brittany Chambers…
“It was as good of a senior performance that I have ever seen. You just have to credit her and move on to the next one.”

On K-State’s three-point shooting…
“We knew that 48-of-100 shots were three’s, but the bottom line is a lot of those were contested. You just have to credit them on a night like tonight. They shot the ball really well, and you just have to move on. “

On second half adjustments…
“We tried to change our defenses in the second-half. We were also doing some of the same. Again, you just have to credit them on a day where they played great. We would have to have played exceptional, and we were not able to.”

Senior Guard Chynna Brown
On trying to stop Brittany Chambers…
“I will credit (Brittany) Chambers. She had a great game. It was her senior day, and she just knocked down a lot of shots, She put the team on her back. She competed on her home court. I do not feel like we came out the way we should have. We gave up a lot of three’s, and she just put us in a bad position.“

On the progress of spring practices…
“I just feel like they had a good night. They were making just about everything. I feel like we defended at times when we needed to, and we eased up when we should not have. If they are wide open of course they are going to knock the shot down. So they got a lot of those shots when they were open.”
