Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes
Head coach Deb Patterson
"It feels great to get our first win of the season. That is a team that competed in the NCAA tournament a year ago and champions of the Big Sky conference. It was a great matchup for a basketball team that is just beginning to find its step and understand who we are and how we want to play. I am very proud of our ability to get that win tonight. When it is all said and done, we found a way to get a win and it was very exciting."
On team's improvements...
"I am really excited that in both of the last two games we did make a lot. I felt like defensively, we came out pretty flat and I was on them about their energy even while we were making that run. I think that there is still even more in the tank but I do like the adjustments that this team has been making after the first twenty minutes. They are coming back onto the floor and they are willing to change areas where we might see deficiencies and they are bringing great attention and energy to that. That has been impressive to me the last two games."
On Haley Texada...
"Haley has not played many minutes. Her freshman year, she did not have a huge window of minutes. To come out tonight and to play with the aggressiveness that she did, to bring the production point wise, to get a couple of assists and to get the feel of distributing that basketball and wanting responsibility to handle it, it was a very strong first game for Haley. I think that she is just another element that is going to give us a chance to continue to be aggressive off of the dribble and I think she will find her way to the rim a great deal during the course of the season. She can shoot the three, so I think her versatility will be very big for this team."
Senior Guard Brittany Chambers
On hitting big shots...
"I think I did better, because in the exhibition games I was not hitting shots like I wanted to. I did better knowing where shots were going to come from, and I got a lot of good shot opportunities."
On Idaho State...
"They brought a lot of intensity to the game, early. I think we did good playing a very experienced team. They ran a really good offense and gave us an opportunity to work, especially since we had such a young team out there. Every game we play is just going to give us more and more experience that is going to help us along the way."
Sophomore Guard Haley Texada
On contributing to the game...
"It felt great. It was good being out on the court again. All I can do is practice hard and play hard and that is what I try to do everyday."
