Kansas State Head Coach and Player Quotes

Head Coach Deb Patterson
Opening statement…
“I think Haley (Texada) played well today, she had been feeling sick this week. I think her courage today just taking the court was important. A lot of turnovers were easily fixable and we have to do better as a team to fix that. They started the second half well and went on a nice run. That is something we have to address and fix. It was a nice victory, we have to keep building on the positives and today I thought we were consistent across the board.”

On Bri Craig…
“I think she was huge today coming off of the bench. The thing I noticed is the defensive intensity level really jumped up today when she was in the game. I think her job of getting in the flow of the game and hitting those big three’s was huge. She has an opportunity to get into the game and she elevated her level of play. She was very efficient today and that was very important to our team.”

On being consistent…
“They are growing every day in helping us improve consistently. It is amazing to me how many open looks that we get. We are having issues getting the ball to the open person whether it is point blank or it is someone on the block. We are a young team, but we just have to step that up. We have to be better finishers. It really just falls on every individual you have to make the big shots and have an impact on your team. We need to get a lot more out of the post game, we have to make more catches, have a presence and not get in foul trouble on silly bump fouls.”

Sophomore Guard Ashia Woods
On the end of the game…
“I knew the game was close and they were battling as hard as we were. It came down to who wanted to hustle more and I just wanted to out hustle them.”

Sophomore Guard Bri Craig
On if it has been hard adjusting to coming off of the bench…
“I do not think so. I think that whatever the team needs me to do I will do that. If it is coming off of the bench to hit big shots then I will do that. Whatever Coach Patterson wants me to do is what I will do.”

UC Santa Barbara Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Carlene Mitchell

On how they played in the game…
“It was a two-point game with three minutes left. We gave up a critical, long lay-up in our 2-2-1 press. Without a doubt, we do not want to make up excuses late in the game because we have got to have those to win. We got into early foul trouble.”

On how the whole team contributed…
“I think our kids have a fighter’s mentality and instinct. They never want to give up on who we are playing or the size of the team. I think I just give credit to our mentality. Most teams at this level play eight or nine players and carry 15, but for us, all of the players that we carry on our team, we give them the mentality that they will get the opportunity to play.“

On how they feel this far into the season…
“There are probably two games, going back and looking, that we could have won and had a chance to win, but late in the game we gave it away. Hopefully as the year progresses, we come out on top in a lot of close games coming into conference play and tournament time.“
