MANHATTAN, Kan. – The first 4,000 fans to the Kansas State women’s basketball game this Saturday will receive a free pink K-State t-shirt provided by Mercy Regional Health Center, Briggs Auto and GTM Sportswear during K-State’s “Play 4Kay” event. K-State will take part in the national “Play 4Kay” initiative during the Big 12 matchup against Texas Tech in Bramlage Coliseum. Doors to the arena open at 1 p.m., for the 2 p.m., tipoff.
At halftime of Saturday’s game, Kansas State will honor one of the greatest women’s basketball teams in the program’s 46-year history as members of the 2004 Big 12 Champions will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its title at Bramlage Coliseum.
Among the members returning to Manhattan for the event are: Claire Coggins, Chelsea Domenico, Amy Dutmer, Brie Madden, Jessica McFarland, Kimmery Newsom, Nicole Ohlde, Naytanda Smith and Kendra Wecker. Due to commitments with their professional teams in Australia and Italy, respectively, Laurie Koehn and Megan Mahoney will be unable to attend.
In addition to the pink t-shirt giveaway and the reunion of the 2004 Big 12 champions at Saturday’s game, special pink concession items will be made available at the Bramlage Coliseum concession stands. Also throughout the concourse Breast Cancer Awareness information will be provided by the Johnson Center for Cancer Research, Lafene Health and Zeta Tau Alpha.
On the floor for the sixth straight season, Kansas State will wear pink uniforms. The jerseys resemble K-State’s traditional home white uniforms, with the white replaced by pink. Two of the pink uniforms will be auctioned off in an online auction available at kstatesports.com. There will be a silent auction on the concourse that will begin at 1 p.m., and will conclude at halftime; those items include the Play 4Kay game-used ball and official game-used nets. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Kay Yow Fund.
This is the seventh season K-State has taken part in this nationwide awareness event, and the 10th straight season K-State has had a breast cancer awareness game. The “Play 4Kay” initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The official charity is the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in partnership with The V Foundation and Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
