MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State head women's basketball coach Deb Patterson has been appointed to fill a vacant at-large Division I position on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Board of Directors.
Patterson will be entering her 16th season at the helm of the K-State women's basketball program for the 2011-12 season. During her time in Manhattan, she is a three-time winner of the WBCA District V Coach of the Year award (2002, 2003 and 2008) while also finishing as a three-time finalist for the organization's National Coach of the Year award.
In addition to her honors from the WBCA, Patterson is a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year recipient (2002 and 2008) and is the career wins leader for women's basketball at K-State with a mark of 300-175 (.632).
During the 2010-11 season, Patterson helped guide the Wildcats back into the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 21-11, including a 10-6 mark and a tie for third in Big 12 action. This was the eighth NCAA Tournament appearance for K-State under Patterson's leadership and the eighth 20-win season since Patterson took the reins of the K-State program prior to the start of the 1996-97 season.
For the 2011-12 season, Patterson returns eight letterwinners and three starters, including All-Big 12 selections Brittany Chambers and Jalana Childs. K-State will begin its 2011-12 season at home on Saturday, Nov. 12, against Dartmouth.
