LATINA, Italy – Kansas State concluded the competition part of its trip through Italy undefeated on Saturday night with an 84-27 win over ASD Bull Basket. Following a final day of sightseeing in Rome, the Wildcats will return home on Monday morning.
K-State was led by the interior duo of senior Katya Leick and freshman Breanna Lewis, as the tandem combined for 30 points and 21 rebounds. Leick notched her second double-double of the trip with 16 points and 11 rebounds. The product of Grey Cloud Township, Minn., averaged team-highs of 17.0 points and 14.3 rebounds in the three games in Italy.
Lewis, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., carded her first double-double of the trip with 14 points and 10 rebounds. For the trip, Lewis averaged 7.3 points and 9.7 rebounds.
K-State took control of the game late in the first quarter, as Chantay Caron and Bri Craig sparked a 40-12 run to close out the opening half. Caron stepped into an ASD Bull Basket passing lane and drove the length of the floor with 5:51 to play to give K-State a 6-5 lead that they would never relinquish.
On the ensuing possession for ASD Bull Basket, Craig copied Caron’s defensive effort by swiping a pass and driving in for an uncontested layup to force an ASD Bull Basket timeout. Craig finished the game with 10 points, three rebounds and a team-high six assists. For the trip, the sophomore from Lincoln, Neb., averaged 13.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists while also making a team-high nine 3-point field goals.
The Wildcats continued to pour on the defensive pressure, holding ASD Bull Basket to single digits in points for all four quarters, including a low of just three points in the final quarter of action on Saturday. K-State concluded the trip with eight quarters of nine or fewer points allowed including a streak of seven straight to end the tour.
