K-State will be looking for a three-peat to its pair of Big 12 titles in the NCAA “Pack the House” initiative, as the Wildcats captured the 2011 and 2012 crowns. K-State hosted 9,024 fans on Jan. 9, 2011 against Oklahoma State, a 63-45 win over the Cowgirls in the Big 12 home opener for the Wildcats. On Feb. 4, 2012, K-State hosted No. 1 Baylor in front of a sold-out crowd of 12,528 fans.
This was the highest attended women’s basketball game in Bramlage Coliseum since March 31, 2006, when K-State hosted the WNIT Final in front of a sell-out crowd of 13,340. The 2012 sell out was the ninth-largest crowd to view a women’s basketball game since Bramlage Coliseum opened in 1988 and the 15th largest crowd to witness a home game in the program’s 45-year history.
Under head coach Deb Patterson, the Wildcats own a record of 40-10 (.800) when the attendance inside Bramlage Coliseum is 7,500 or larger.
The NCAA “Pack the House” initiative is in its sixth year of existence and was created to assist in growing the game of women’s basketball. NCAA member schools can select any game from the start of competition on Nov. 1, 2012 until the close of regular season action on March 5, 2013.
Participating schools compete against one another within their own conference and against all Division I schools for a chance to be awarded the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Pack the House Challenge Champion. This will be the third year that all of the Big 12 Conference members will participate in the initiative.
Deb Patterson and the Wildcats are off to a 7-1 start this season, which is the best start to a season since the 2010-11 season.
