WACO, Texas- A two-meet road trip got off to a rough start for the No. 4 Kansas State equestrian team, as the Wildcats dropped a decision to No. 6 Baylor, 12-7, on Friday.

Head coach Casie Maxwell thought her team performed well despite the loss.

“Despite the score our team rode really strong today,” said Maxwell.  “We made a few minor errors in Equitation on the Flat and Reining that we will address, but our team is in a great state mentally and physically. We look forward to fixing some things tomorrow against TCU and in the coming weeks as we prepare for the post season."

The Hunter seat team mustered up strong scores, but were unable to overcome Baylor. They ended the day 4-6.

Captain Rachel Webster picked up two wins on the day, winning in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over fences. She defeated Taylor Brown, 76-69, to give K-State one if its points in Equitation on the Flat. Sophomore Madison Wayda earned the other point, easily besting Melanie Appel, 74-60.

In Equitation Over Fences, Shana Barnett picked up her second win of the Spring season, edging out her Baylor counterpart, 82-81. Webster had one of the best rides for K-State in the discipline, scoring an 85 in her outing and scoring a point for the Wildcats.

The Western team faced tough competition, going 3-6 against Baylor’s Western team.

Amelia Crites got things started for the Wildcats in Horsemanship, picking up a 74-72 win over Bryn Lindley. Rachel Wetherell added the second point for K-State in the discipline, putting together a ride that scored a 73 and was enough to best Rachel Nankervis, who scored a 69.5.

Captain Sam Etsell was the lone Wildcat to record a point in Reining. The senior carded a score of 70, which was just enough to get past Katherine Berg, who posted a 69.5

The Wildcats will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Fort Worth, Texas for a showdown with TCU tomorrow. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. K-State returns to home action on March 8, when No. 5 South Carolina comes to Timbercreek Stables.
