MANHATTAN, Kan.- No. 8 Kansas State avenged an early season loss to No. 3 Oklahoma State, by defeating the Cowgirls, 11-8, Saturday at Timbercreek Stables on Senior day. Madison Wayda picked up two Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors on the day.

Head coach Casie Maxwell  was happy to send out her seniors with a win in the Wildcats’ regular season finale.

“I am just glad that they got to finish the regular season with a conference win and our seniors go out on a great note,” said Maxwell. “They just did a fabulous job and it was truly a team effort, just like our Big 12 conference play has been all year. It came down to every single ride and they did a great job.”

The Hunter seat team had a strong day, defeating the Cowgirls 6-4. The day kicked off with Equitation Over Fences, which the Wildcats (9-5, 3-3 Big 12) won 3-2.

Cat Avolese gave the Wildcats their first point of the day after carding an 85 and defeating her OSU counterpart. Kali Yates scored an impressive 90 on her ride to get past Maggie Gampfer. Wayda carded the best ride of the discipline, scoring a 91 on her way to picking up the first of her MOP honors. Katie Haukos earned an exhibiton win for K-State.

The Wildcats also took Equitation on the Flat, 3-2. In her last home competition, Meredith Finch registered a 78-71 win over Leighona Bernstein of Oklahoma State. The win pushed her record to 12-1-1 on the season. Wayda once again provided the Wildcats with a big ride, scoring an 87 and earning her second MOP honor. Rachel Webster wrapped up the event for K-State after defeating Ali Rose, 87-85.

Wayda saw her wins as a confidence boost heading into the Big 12 Championship.

“It is a huge confidence booster for sure,” said Wayda. “It is my first time winning MOP on Equitation on the Flat so it is exciting. Everybody did awesome and rode their hearts out. I think we are ready to go into Big 12’s and dominate.”

The Western team faced a tough OSU squad, but came out on top, 5-4. In Horsemanship, K-State took the event 3-1.

Captain Kelly Bovaird provided the Wildcats with a spark, earning a 69.5 and slipping by OSU’s Lauren Halvorson, who carded a 68. Rachel Wetherell added to the point total, scoring a 74.5 to give K-State back-to-back points. Hannah Ribera finished things off by receiving an impressive 76 on her ride, to edge out Lindsey McMullen. Whitney Unkefer and Chayna DeNicolo picked up exhibition wins with a pair of strong performances.
