WACO, Texas – The Kansas State English team’s season came to a close on Saturday as they fell to second-seeded South Carolina, 7-1, in the fifth-place match of the 2012 National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championships at the Extraco Event Center in Waco.

“This week has obviously been disappointing as far as placings are concerned,” said K-State head coach Casie Lisabeth. “But I am really proud of our Hunter Seat team. They have not gotten to compete on a Saturday for a while so that is huge confidence booster for them. We are not losing anybody heading into next season, so I think this sets a precedent for next year.”

In the first competition of the day, K-State’s Equitation on the Flat team was downed by South Carolina, 3-1.

Junior Meredith Finch captured the lone head-to-head point for the Wildcats in the event, as she downed South Carolina’s Kimberly McCormack, 159-137. With today’s victory, the Somerville, Ohio, native capped a terrific postseason, where she was the only Wildcat English rider to finish the 2012 NCEA National Championships with an undefeated record. Overall, Finch ended the year with 12 wins, which is tied for tops on the Wildcat Hunt Seat squad.

The Wildcat Fences riders competed with great energy and effort but were swept by South Carolina, 4-0.

K-State’s Hunt Seat squad ended the 2011-12 season, which was highlighted by wins over Big 12 rivals Baylor and Oklahoma State, with a record of 7-5-5.
