MANHATTAN, Kan. – The No. 8 Kansas State equestrian team returns home after a two-meet road trip for a top-10 battle with No. 4 South Carolina on Friday at Timbercreek Stables. This will be K-State’s first home meet since Nov. 2. The meet is free and open to the public. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
Overall, the Wildcats (7-5, 2-3 Big 12) will look to end a three-match losing streak against the Gamecocks (6-4, 3-2 SEC). The Wildcats have faced the Gamecocks in the past two seasons and hold a 1-1 record against them.
Head coach Casie Maxwell is glad to return to Manhattan for the last regular season meets.
“It is good to be home for our last two regular season competitions,” said Maxwell. “We learned a lot from our road trip last weekend and are looking forward to riding to our potential this weekend.”
The Hunter Seat team will look to continue its strong form into Friday. Team captain Rachel Webster is off to a hot start in March, holding a 4-0 record and earning two Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors in the month.
Captain Meredith Finch will look to put a cap on her final two home meets. The senior from Somerville, Ohio, will lead an Equitation on the Flat side that will bring plenty of experience into the showdown.
K-State’s Western team will look to get things going against a strong Gamecock side. Captain Sam Etsell picked up a win last weekend against Baylor in Reining, and will look to add a win to her resume. She will lead a strong Reining side into Friday’s meet. Etsell holds a 5-5-1 record.
The Wildcats’ Horsemanship team will have plenty of depth to choose from to face South Carolina. Captain Kelly Bovaird will look to get back into the win column after dropping decisions against Baylor and TCU.
K-State wraps up the regular season with a home finale on Saturday, March 16. The meet will be a Big 12 battle against Oklahoma State at Timbercreek. The meet is free and open to the public.
