MANHATTAN, Kan.- After getting a big win against No. 4 South Carolina last Friday, the No. 8 Kansas State equestrian team looks to close out the regular season with a win against No. 3 Oklahoma State on Saturday. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m., at Timbercreek Stables. Oklahoma State defeated K-State, 15-7, Nov. 17.
The Wildcats (8-5, 2-3 Big 12) will recognize nine seniors, after Equitation Over Fences has finished. Seniors Cassie Collins, Sam Etsell, Meredith Finch, Cody Hadrick, Katie Haukos, Larissa Laffey, Hannah Ribera, Kali Yates and Mallory Zila will all be honored.
Head coach Casie Maxwell hopes to send her seniors out on a good note.
“We are looking forward to being at home and competing in our last regular season meet,” said Maxwell. “This is a special day as we will recognize nine seniors who have been instrumental in building our program. OSU will be a tough opponent and we look to capitalize on what we did well this past weekend against South Carolina and finish the regular season on a high note.”
Finch and Rachel Webster will lead a Hunter seat team that has been strong all season. Webster, has a started the month of March on a high note, with a record of 5-1 including three Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors while competing in both Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat.
Finch will look to end her final home meet with a win. The senior captain has compiled an 11-1-1 mark this season, and will lead an Equitation on the Flat team that defeated the Gamecocks, 3-2.
A week after dominating South Carolina, 8-2, the Western team looks to keep that momentum rolling against the Cowgirls.
Etsell will perform in her last home Reining event and will look to earn her team a win. Her win last week boosted her record to 6-5-1 on the season.
Fresh off an MOP winning performance, Kelly Bovaird will look to capitalize off of that performance and turn it into another one against a highly ranked OSU squad.
Saturday’s meet is free and open to the public. Following this weekend, the Wildcats travel to Stillwater, Okla., March 29 and 30 as they compete in the 2013 Big 12 Championships.
