MANHATTAN, Kan. – Coming off back-to-back losses to Big 12 foes Baylor and Texas A&M, the eighth-ranked Kansas State equestrian team will look to get back on track as they host fourth-ranked Oklahoma State on Senior Day, Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., at TimberCreek Stables.

K-State (5-6) will look to cool off the red-hot Cowgirls (7-4), who, after dropping four-consecutive duals, have rattled off five-straight wins, including a 13-10 upset of top-ranked Georgia last weekend in Stillwater, Okla.

“The team is looking forward to being back at home and finishing out the regular season in our home arena,” said K-State head coach Casie Lisabeth. “Saturday's meet will be a big challenge for our team and also a very memorable day as we recognize seven special, outgoing seniors. Additionally, we will be sharing this special day with our partnership unit from Fort Riley and we look forward to having their support at this meet.”

With their collegiate careers coming to a close, K-State’s seven seniors; Marlana Barkow, Kate Hennessy, Melanie Hinzpeter, Paige Lechtenberg, Erica Mackiewicz, Paige Ryan and Alayna Warner,  will be honored during Saturday’s dual.  The Wildcat equestrian team will also recognize its partnership with Fort Riley’s 4-1 Brigade Support Battalion unit on Saturday.

K-State’s English squad will be led by junior Larissa Laffey and sophomore Sarah Mershon, both of whom have won nine matches this season for the Wildcats. Laffey, who is one of the few K-State riders to compete in both Hunt Seat events, brought home two wins from last weekend’s duals against Baylor and Texas A&M.

Mershon has now won five of her last six matches, a streak that started with an 80-78 winning ride over Oklahoma State’s Ellie Sparks on November 19.

Sophomore Kelly Bovaird continues to pace the Wildcat Western squad during her second year in Manhattan. The Tulsa, Okla., native currently has eight victories on the year, which is tops for the Western squad this season. Like Bovaird, fellow sophomore Emily Stockford has won three of four matches during the spring season and will look to lead the Reining team past a talented OSU squad.

This weekend’s match with the Cowgirls will mark the end of the 2011-12 regular season as the Wildcats will have next weekend off before hosting the 2012 Big 12 Championships on March 30 and 31 at TimberCreek Stables.
