IRVING, Texas. – The Kansas State equestrian team had 10 riders named to the Academic All-Big 12 Equestrian team in an announcement by the conference on Tuesday. The Wildcats had seven first-team selections and three second-team selections.

Seniors Shana Barnett, Jordan Cox, Amelia Crites, Jesse Johnson, Laura Lafnitzegger, Rachel Webster, and junior Madison Wayda all earned first-team honors. Seniors Jacquelyn Bogstad, Chayna DeNicolo and junior Savannah Smith were named to the second team.

“It is a huge accomplishment for our team to have so many athletes make the Academic All-Big 12 Team,” said head coach Casie Maxwell. “They are students first and we pride them for their success in the classroom as well in the arena.”

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

K-State travels to Waco, Texas this week for the Big 12 Championship. The Wildcats will face No. 1 seed Oklahoma State in the first round.
