MANHATTAN, Kan.-  The No. 4 Kansas State equestrian team travels to Stillwater, Okla., this weekend as they compete in the Big 12 Championship. The Wildcats will face No. 5 TCU to open competition. The Wildcats and the Horned Frogs split matches against each other this season.

Head coach Casie Maxwell says her team is prepared and ready to win a championship.

“We are looking forward to the Big 12 Championship and hope to build off the confidence we gained from our final two regular season wins,” said Maxwell. “The team has been practicing really well and is pulling together at the right point in the season, so we are excited to see what is in store for them in the post season.”

The Wildcats will have plenty of momentum heading into the weekend after two big home wins against South Carolina and Oklahoma State.

The Hunter seat team will face a familiar foe in TCU. The Wildcats have outscored the Horned Frogs 11-8 in the two meets this season.

Senior Meredith Finch will look to end her Big 12 career with a win in Equitation on the Flat. The All-Big 12 candidate currently holds a 12-1-1 record while going 2-0 against TCU.

Rachel Webster has been phenomenal in March and looks to continue her hot steak. The junior from Mechanicsville, Va., has compiled a 6-2 record in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation Over Fences in the month, including three Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors. Sophomore Madison Wayda is coming off an outstanding meet against OSU, going 2-0 and winning two MOP honors in both Hunter seat events.

The Western team will have a strong challenge in TCU. Captain Sam Etsell, a 2012 All-Big 12 selection, looks to cap off her Big 12 campaign as she leads the Reining team into the competition. The horsemanship side will have plenty of depth to choose from for the weekend.

Day one action will kick off on Friday, with the championship match taking place on Saturday. The winner from the K-State/TCU matchup will face the winner of the Baylor/Oklahoma State match for the Big 12 Championship, with the two losing sides meeting to determine third and fourth place.
