MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State equestrian freshman Kelly Bovaird was named to the 2010-11 Varsity Equestrian honorable mention All-American team on Thursday. Bovaird, who specializes in the Horsemanship discipline, is the only Wildcat rider to be named to the All-American list this season.
A product of Tulsa, Okla., Bovaird has shined in her first season in Manhattan. She started the year on a three-match win-streak before going on to collect a Western team-high three match MVP awards as well as nine overall victories, which is tops on the Wildcat western squad for 2010-11.
“It is a huge honor for Kelly to be recognized as one of the top athletes in Varsity Equestrian,” said K-State head coach Casie Lisabeth. “She ha s worked extremely hard and made a lot of progress in her first year, so I am anxious to help her continue her trend for the rest of her collegiate career.”
This is the first year that Varsity Equestrian has awarded All-American status as well as honorable mention All-American status to the top equestrian student-athletes in the nation.
