WACO, Texas – Kansas State junior Meredith Finch was named Most Outstanding Player for her performance in Equitation on the Flat at the 2012 National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championships, this weekend at the Extraco Events Center in Waco.

“I am so excited for Meredith and proud of all that she has accomplished this weekend, as well as all season long,” said K-State Hunt Seat coach Casey Finnell. “She has worked so hard to get where she is and did an outstanding job of anchoring the team this weekend. She has battled through a lot this season and really rose to the occasion at the right time. This is a huge honor for her and for our team to share in as well.”

A junior from Somerville, Ohio, Finch closed out 2012 with a dominate postseason run, where she was the only Wildcat English rider to finish the 2012 NCEA National Championships with an undefeated head-to-head record.

Finch opened up the event by knocking off TCU rider Dami Stiegler, 149-138, before besting Jennifer Delman of Auburn, 166-141, to card her second win of the competition.

In third round action, Finch blasted SMU’s Courtney Line, 151-122, before closing out her undefeated NCEA National Championships streak with a 159-137 win over South Carolina rider Kimberly McCormack.

“It was just a shock,” said Finch of her award. “It is really good to know that all the hard work that we have put in throughout the season has paid off and we were finally rewarded for it at the end of the year.”

Overall, Finch ended the 2011-12 season by winning six out of the last seven matches, to tally an English team-high-tying mark of 12 victories.
