MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State equestrian head coach Casie Maxwell filled her Hunter Seat coaching vacancy Friday, with the addition of Anna Becker to the staff.
“I am excited to add Anna to our staff here at K-State,” said Maxwell. “She comes into the program at a great time, as we have a strong returning Hunter Seat team combined with a very deep recruiting class. I am confident that her personal and collegiate background have prepared her well for the coaching world and she will continue to push our program towards the goal of winning a National Championship.”
Hailing from Branchville, N.J., Becker will enter her first season coaching with the Wildcat program. A 2013 Cum Laude honors graduate from Auburn, Becker will lead a Hunter Seat side that returns many veteran riders and incoming freshmen.
Becker will bring a wealth of experience from her time at Auburn. The incoming coach helped her side win two NCEA Overall and Hunter Seat National Championships (2011, 2013) while also helping her school win back-to-back SEC titles in 2010 and 2011. Becker also had an outstanding amateur career, winning the 2008 Maclay at Beacon Hill Equestrian Grand Prix Horse Show, the 2009 Maclay at Lake Placid Horse Show and the 2009 USET Talent Search at the I Love New York Horse Show.
K-State’s Hunter Seat team returns several riders with experience. Senior Rachel Webster will be one of the riders that the Wildcats will look towards for leadership. Webster finished the 2012-13 season with a 23-11 record while earning second team All-American honors and being named an All-Big 12 performer. Seniors Cat Avolese and Shana Barnett and junior Madison Wayda also return after strong seasons. The Wildcats also have 12 incoming freshmen to bolster the depth.
K-State kicks off the 2013-14 season with the Purple and White Scrimmage on September 8 at Timbercreek Stables and the regular season on September 20 at South Carolina.
