No. 5 Wildcats Host No. 4 Oklahoma State

Sept. 25, 2013

K-State Athletics

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Fresh off of its first win of the season over Delaware State, the No. 5 Kansas State Equestrian team will make its home debut on Saturday against Big 12 foe Oklahoma State at Timbercreek Stables. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.

"We are excited to open conference play this weekend in addition to hosting our first meet of the season," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "The team has a few rides under their belt and are working hard this week to prepare for OSU. We expect it will be a tough competition, but I expect our riders will bring their A-game and come prepared to defend their home arena."

Last season, K-State defeated the Cowgirls, 11-8, in Manhattan. The Wildcats' Hunter seat team came away with a 6-4 win while the Western team edged OSU, 5-4.

The Western team looks to get revenge on the Cowgirls, after falling to their counterparts in the NCEA National Championship final. Captain Kelly Bovaird earned her first MOP of the season in Horsemanship against DSU and will have a chance to add to her accolade list as she will be called upon to compete in both Horsemanship and Reining.

The Horsemanship team is loaded with experience, with four seniors set to compete. In Reining, Jordan Cox and Bovaird will lead the charge. Emily Stockford hopes to take her momentum of winning an MOP last week into Saturday's tilt.

In the Hunter Seat, the Wildcats will be led by captains Rachel Webster and Madison Wayda. Webster had a strong day against the Hornets, picking up two Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors. The senior will look to continue her hot streak into Saturday. In the home matchup last season, Wayda took home both MOPs in Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Seniors Cat Avolese and Jacquelyn Bogstad will provide the Wildcats with a pair of veteran riders in the discipline.

Saturday's meet is free and open to the public. Following this weekend's home meet against the Cowgirls, the Wildcats continue their homestand next Saturday as No. 6 Texas A&M visits Timbercreek Stables.
