MANHATTAN, Kan. - A week after knocking off No. 4 Oklahoma State, the No. 5 Kansas State equestrian team is set for its second consecutive top-10 matchup, when the team hosts No. 6 Texas A&M on Saturday at Timbercreek Stables. The meet is set for a 10 a.m. start.
"We are looking forward to hosting again this weekend and having the opportunity to fix some mistakes, while continuing to build momentum, here at home," said head coach Casie Maxwell. "It is early in the season and we've got things to fix, but we have a great schedule set up where we can get our team back in there time and time again and work on getting better."
The Hunter Seat team had an outstanding performance last week against OSU, outscoring the Cowgirls, 7-3. In the last two meets, the Wildcats have outscored opponents, 13-5.
The team will be led into the meet by captains Rachel Webster and Madison Wayda. Both riders are coming off MOP winning performances against OSU. Webster has been remarkable so far this season. The senior holds an overall record of 4-2 while winning three MOP awards. Wayda comes into the meet with a 3-2 record and one MOP.
The Western team will look to improve on its performance against the Cowgirls.
Emily Stockford has made the most of her opportunity this season. The senior from Cave Creek, Ariz., is 2-1 on the season in Reining, with two consecutive MOP awards. Sophomore Kara Guy continues to improve and impress, holding a perfect 3-0 record in Reining this season. Captain Jordan Cox will look to improve upon her 2-1 record on Saturday.
In Horsemanship, Kelly Bovaird has been every bit as impressive. The senior captain holds a 2-1 record in the discipline with one MOP award. Another senior, Chayna DeNicolo also holds a 2-1 record in Horsemanship and will provide the Wildcats with a veteran rider.
K-State begins a four-meet road trip, starting with a conference meet against Baylor on Oct. 18. The Wildcats return to home action on Nov. 22, when the Wildcats host Georgia in the final home meet of the fall season.
