MANHATTAN, Kan. – The No. 6 Kansas State equestrian team returns to action on Friday, as they host their last home meet of the fall season against new Big 12 opponent, No. 8 TCU. The Wildcats (5-1 1-0) are coming off a 13-6 win against South Dakota State in their last outing and are riding a five-meet win streak.

K-State has faced the Horned Frogs in two of the last three seasons, with the Wildcats coming out on top in both meets, including last season when K-State topped TCU, 11-9. This will be the first time the two schools meet as Big 12 opponents.

Head coach Casie Maxwell expects a tough challenge from TCU.

“TCU is going to be a tough opponent for us and we have been working hard to prepare for them,” Maxwell said. “We expect them to come to Manhattan willing to ride aggressive, so we have been working on the fine details that will help us defend our home arena.”

In the last five meets, the Hunter Seat team has been unstoppable during the current winning streak, outscoring opponents, 36-9. Junior captain Rachel Webster will look to improve on her outstanding start, as she currently holds an overall record of 11-1 on the year. Senior captain Meredith Finch looks to extend her undefeated streak, as she stands at 6-0 on the season. Seniors Kali Yates and Larissa Laffey have been just as important for the Hunter Seat team, as the pair hold records of 8-1 and 6-0, respectively.

The Western team will look to continue to improve on its strong performances. Senior captain Sam Etsell will be out to prove why she is considered one of the best Reining riders in the Big 12, as she owns a 4-1 record in the event this season.. Junior captain Kelly Bovaird has been steady for the Wildcats in Horsemanship, as she holds a record of 4-0-1. Sophomore Savannah Smith has been a key rider for
K-State in Reining, where she possesses a 4-1 mark.

The Wildcats will also host a reunion of former equestrian student-athletes this weekend.

“It is really exciting to have former athletes here this weekend for the Equestrian Reunion,” Maxwell said.“We look forward to showing off our facility and talent to a great group of riders who helped get this program going.”

Admission to Friday’s meet is free to the public and will start at approximately 10 a.m.  The Wildcats will be on the road to close out  the fall season, as they travel to Stillwater, Okla. for a Big 12 matchup with Oklahoma State on Saturday, Nov.17.
