LAWRENCE, Kan.—The Kansas State women’s golf team sits in seventh after the first round of the Big 12 Championships at the par 70, 6,150-yard Lawrence Country Club golf course on Friday.
Battling rough weather conditions, the Wildcats tallied a 43-over par 323 in the first round and are one stroke back to sixth-place Missouri and seven shots shy of a tie for fourth.
“Today was tough conditions, but the ladies hung in there,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “Tomorrow is another day and challenge, and I am proud of our effort today.”
Iowa State leads after the first round of play with a 31-over par 311. Second place Baylor is right behind the Cyclones with a 33-over par 313.
Wildcat freshman Carly Ragains was solid on the day as she led the squad with a 9-over par to sit in a tie for 15th. One stroke behind Ragains was Hanna Roos, who sits in a tie for 21st.
Whitney Pyle and Ami Storey both notched a 12-over par 82 to sit in a tie for 26th.
Gianna Misenhelter carded a 16-over par 86 to sit in a tie for 42nd.
Baylor’s Haley Davis, Oklahoma’s Chirapat Jao Javanil and Iowa State’s Sasikarn On-lam sit in a three-way tie for first at 5-over par 75.
