LAWRENCE, Kan. — The Kansas State women’s golf team finished the 2012 Big 12 Championship in eighth place at the par 70, 6,150-yard Lawrence Country Club after final-round play on Sunday.

The Wildcats turned in their best score of the weekend at 20-over par 300 to finish with a 54-hole score of 92-over par 932.

Leading the way for K-State on Sunday was junior Hanna Roos, who recorded an eight-shot improvement from the second round to card a 1-over par 71. Roos finished in 15th to earn her second top-20 finish of the season, while she registered the highest placing by a Wildcat in the Big 12 Championship since Elise Houtz also tied for 15th in 2009.

“Hanna had a great round today,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “We got better each day. Today was a long day with the delay in the middle of the round, but we made positive strides this season. The ladies will continue to practice and improve in the off-season.”

Whitney Pyle notched an 8-over par 78 to finish in a tie for 20th, earning her fifth top-20 finish on the season. Three spots behind Pyle was Carly Ragains, who improved two shots from her second round to tie for 23rd at 23-over par 233.

Gianna Misenhelter tallied the biggest improvement by a Wildcat by shaving nine strokes off her second-round score, finishing the final round at 5-over par 75 to tie for 44th. Ami Storey turned in a 54-hole score of 35-over par 245 to also tie for 44th.

Oklahoma won its second Big 12 Championship by combining for a 64-over par 904, seven strokes ahead of second-place Texas. Texas A&M’s Mary Michael Maggio won the individual competition with a 54-hole score of 9-over par 219.

K-State will return seven players off this year’s squad, including four juniors from the 2011-12 campaign. The Wildcats also bring back three players that competed in at least nine events this year.
