COLUMBIA, Mo. – Kansas State senior golfer Whitney Pyle had the best day of her career Monday, firing a two-round score of 137 to lead the field after 36 holes of play at the Johnie Imes Invitational at the par-72, 6,234-yard Club at Old Hawthorne.

Led by Pyle, K-State finished the opening day in second place at 11-over par 587, six strokes behind SMU. Host school Missouri is in third, seven shots behind the Wildcats at 18-over par 594.

Pyle notched a career-best 18-hole score of 4-under par 68 in the first round, then continued her strong play with a 69 to record a career-best 36-hole score of 7-under par 137. The Blue Mound, Kan., native’s two under-par rounds puts her two strokes ahead of second-place Melanie White of SMU.

Gianna Misenhelter is tied for 13th after turning in a 1-under par 71 in the second round, bettering her stroke count from the first round by five and moving up 13 spots on the leaderboard. It was the eighth under-par round for the junior.

“Whitney and Gianna had a solid day,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “It was a long day, and I am proud of all the ladies for hanging in. We had good team scores, but there is room for improvement in round three.”

Carly Ragains notched a 36-hole score of 7-over par 151 to tie for 20th, and one stroke behind  is Olivia Elisson, who is tie for 37th. Ragains and Eliasson look to move up the leaderboard in Tuesday's final round to each earn their second top-20 finish of the fall slate.

Hanna Roos carded a 12-over par 156 and Scotland Preston, who is competing as an individual, posted a 21-over par 165.
