NORMAN, Okla. – Sophomore Carly Ragains notched a 2-under par 70 on Monday to lead the Kansas State women’s golf team after the first round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the par 72, 6,327-yard Jimmie Austin Golf Club.

The Wildcats currently sit in a tie for 10th at 12-over par 300, 11 strokes behind a three-way tie for second with Notre Dame, Texas Tech and Texas State, and 16 strokes behind first-place Oklahoma.

Ragains’ first under-par round of the fall slate puts her in a tie for fifth, two strokes behind first-place Tonje Daffinrud of Denver, Kimberly Kaufman of Texas Tech and Lindsey Weaver of Notre Dame, and one stroke behind fourth-place Sanna Nuutinen of TCU.

Whitney Pyle was solid on the day, carding a 3-over par 75 to sit in a tie for 39th. One stroke behind Pyle was Gianna Misenhelter who sits in a tie for 53rd.

“Today, the good outweighed the bad,” head coach Kristi Knight said. “Carly had a great round, and Gianna and Whitney played a lot of good golf. We had a couple of missed shots at the end of the round, but I am proud of our effort. I know the girls will give it their best effort tomorrow.”

Hanna Roos turned in a 7-over par 79, and Olivia Eliasson scored an 8-over par 80.

Results of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic can be followed at www.golfstat.com and will be posted at www.kstatesports.com following the conclusion of second-round play on Tuesday.
