NORMAN, Okla. – Playing in gusty conditions, the Kansas State women’s golf team remains in 10th place after the second round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the par 72, 6,327-yard Jimmie Austin Golf Club.
K-State turned in a second-round score of 28-over par 316 to sit at 40-over par 616 heading into Wednesday’s final round.
Sophomore Carly Ragains remained solid in the second round as she led the Wildcats with a score of 4-over par 76 to sit in a tie for seventh. Ragains, who has notched a 36-hole score of 2-over par 146, is in search of her second top-10 finish for the fall slate.
Whitney Pyle carded four birdies on the day but shot an 8-over par 80 to sit in a tie for 49th.
“Carly had another solid round today,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “Whitney played a lot of good golf, but two scores hurt her. It will take patience and a good short game tomorrow in these gutsy conditions, but I know the ladies are capable of doing that.”
Oklahoma continues to lead the team competition with a 36-hole score of 3-over par 579, 15 shots ahead of second-place Texas Tech.
Notre Dame’s Lindsey Weaver leads the individual competition with a 36-hole score of 4-under par 140, one stroke ahead of Emily Collins and Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma, and Kimberly Kaufman of Texas Tech.
Wildcat junior Gianna Misenhelter notched a second-round score of 10-over par 82 to sit in a tie for 68th at 14-over par 158. One stroke behind Misenhelter is Hanna Roos to tie for 75th, while Olivia Eliasson is in 79th at 16-over par 160.
“Overall, it was not our best day, but we are also very fortunate because we shot a high team total and held ground,” Knight said. “Tomorrow is another day and an opportunity to climb up the leaderboard.”
