MANHATTAN, Kan. - A young and energetic coach with a keen eye for talent, Stewart Burke has been named assistant coach for the Kansas State women's golf program, head coach Kristi Knight announced Thursday.
A native of Scotland, Burke brings coaching and recruiting experience to K-State. A former collegiate golfer at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., Burke spent the past three years as Director of Recruitment at United Sports USA, a company that assists NCAA Division I coaches of all sports with recruiting the top student-athletes from the United Kingdom and Europe. A partner who helped set up United Sports USA, Burke also previously worked at a similar organization called First Point USA Sport Scholarship Consultants.
"The team and I are looking forward to working with Coach Stew," Knight said. "He enhances our overseas recruiting efforts with his knowledge of junior golf talent in the UK and Europe, while his eye for talent will also be beneficial in recruiting across the United States. Stewart brings a great deal of golf knowledge with his experience as a former collegiate golfer and caddy for elite golfers in the UK. When I met him, I was impressed with his positive attitude and character, and I know he will be a great asset to K-State women's golf."
Burke also boasts collegiate coaching experience as he was an assistant coach at Lindenwood during the 2007-08 season, assisting with both the men's and women's programs. Additionally, Burke has also caddied for numerous premier amateur events and professional tournaments.
While competing at Lindenwood from 2003-07, Burke worked at Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters, Mo., as the Acting Director of Golf. At Old Hickory, Burke managed personnel, oversaw tournament operations and scoring functions while running the junior summer program, among other responsibilities.
Burke received his Bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Lindenwood in 2007.
Kansas State returns to action to begin its spring season Feb. 14-16, in the Florida State Matchup at Southwood GC in Tallahassee, Fla.
