MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will look to take a step forward in its second tournament of the spring season as the Wildcats head to Peoria, Ariz., to participate in the Westbrook Invitational, Feb. 23-24, at the par-72, 6,269-yard Westbrook Village Golf Club.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Sunday followed by 18 holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (MT) each day.
Six members of the K-State squad will be competing in the tournament with junior Olivia Eliasson, senior Gianna Misenhelter, junior Carly Ragains, freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol and sophomore Scotland Preston comprising the scoring lineup, while freshman Madison Talley will participate as an individual.
"Three of the ladies have played the course and that is always helpful," head coach Kristi Knight said. "As always the key to success is patience, poise, and confidence."
Kansas State will be joined by 13 other teams including Wisconsin, Oregon, Ohio State, Illinois, College of Charleston, Oregon State, Nebraska, Washington State, Iowa, Indiana, Tulsa, Colorado State and Eastern Michigan.
After tallying 23 birdies at the Florida State Matchup last weekend, the Wildcats will look to build on their success from a week ago. Individually, the Wildcats were paced by freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol, who finished in a tie for 35th with a season-best 14-over par 230. Gravel-Coursol produced the second-lowest scoring on par-3 holes in the tournament and carded the sixth-most birdies of the tournament with seven.
"This is a quick turnaround between events, and I think that is a good thing to get back on the course," Knight said.
This is the third consecutive year K-State will compete in the Westbrook Spring Invitational, as the Wildcats placed sixth last year with a team score of 9-over par 297 and were led by Eliasson, who carded a 54-hole score of 5-over par 221 to finish in 12th.
