Wildcats Venture West For Mountain View
March 13, 2013
MANHATTAN, Kan.—The Kansas State women’s golf team travels to Tucson, Ariz., to co-host the Mountain View Collegiate at the par 72, 6,227-yard Mountain View Golf Club Friday and Saturday. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday with a 7:30 a.m. (MT) shotgun start each day.
“The team is looking to bounce back after stubbing our toes last week,” said head coach Kristi Knight. “We have had good play this season. We’re just not quite able to get four rounds each day. It will require not pressing and just playing smart, confident golf.”
K-State will send the scoring lineup of Olivia Eliasson, Whitney Pyle, Gianna Misenhelter, Carly Ragains and Hanna Roos to Arizona, marking the fourth time this season the Wildcats have used this lineup. Scotland Preston will compete individually for the third time this year.
Eliasson looks to continue her successful spring season as the sophomore has led the Wildcats for two consecutive weeks. The Sweden native finished the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational with a 12-over par 228 to tie for 23rd.
Ragains scored a 23-over par 239, while Preston finished the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational with a 54-hole score of 29-over par 245.
Roos opened up the spring season at the Westbrook Invitational with an 18-over par 234 and looks to build on a strong showing.
The Wildcats will be joined at the Mountain View Collegiate by the College of Charleston, Colorado State, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, North Texas, Northern Arizona, Redlands Community College, San Jose State, Texas State, Texas Tech, North Carolina, Wichita State and Wyoming.
This marks the 14th season the Wildcats have competed at the event, finishing last year’s tournament in sixth place with a 54-hole score of 19-over par 883. K-State’s most recent first-place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate came in 2002 with a 36-hole score of 21-over par 597.
