MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will look to take a step forward in its second tournament of the season as the Wildcats host the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational, Sept. 23-24, at the par-72, 6,265-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m., while final-round action begins at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday. It is the only home tournament of the year for the Wildcats, and the event is free and open to the public.
All seven members of the K-State squad will be competing in the home match with Olivia Eliasson, Carly Ragains, Gianna Misenhelter, Katherine Gravel-Coursol and Madison Talley making up the scoring lineup. The other two members of the squad - Anne Willman and Scotland Preston - will participate as individuals.
"We are excited to compete at Colbert Hills and to compete against the field of teams coming in," head coach Kristi Knight said. "I am looking forward to watching this lineup compete with a strong belief in themselves and each other."
Kansas State will be joined by 14 other teams, which includes Arkansas State, Colorado State, Creighton, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico State, North Texas, Northern Iowa, Oral Roberts, Redlands Community College, Southern Illinois, Tulsa, UMKC and Wichita State.
"We are going to be facing some stiff competition," said Knight. "It will be important to stay in the present and focus on each shot."
After top-20 finishes at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, both Eliasson and Ragains look to lead the team and build on their success from two weeks ago. Eliasson carded a 6-over par 222 to tie for 15th, while Ragains tied for 20th with an 8-over par 224 in a tournament the Wildcats tied for eighth out of 17 teams.
Kansas State finished third last year in the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., with Misenhelter and Eliasson placing in the top 10. The last time the tournament was held at Colbert Hills was 2011 when K-State placed second, while Misenhelter finished second individually.
