MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State women's golf team will seek to continue its strong start to the season Monday and Tuesday as the Wildcats travel to Austin, Texas, for the Challenge at Onion Creek on the par-70, 5,821-yard Onion Creek Original Course.

The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start both days.

K-State will send the scoring lineup of junior Carly Ragains, senior Gianna Misenhelter, freshmen Madison Talley and Katherine Gravel-Coursol, as well as junior Olivia Eliasson. The group finished second in last week's Sunflower Invitational, led by Eliasson, Ragains and Misenhelter who all placed in the top-10.

"This year's team appears to be more composed and a little tougher," head coach Kristi Knight said. "But it is still important to stay in the present and focus on each shot."

Through two tournaments, the Wildcats have been averaging 76.54 strokes per player and carry an impressive 21-8-1 record against all opponents.

"We have played more good holes than bad in the first two events. Our bad holes, however, have been costly," Knight said. "When we can eliminate or at least reduce the big numbers, we will really be able to post some great scores."

The Wildcats enter the Challenge at Onion Creek ranked 54th nationally according to Golfstat.com and are the second-highest ranked team at the tournament. Kansas State will be joined in the event by Coastal Carolina, Grand Canyon, Iowa, Kansas, Miami, Michigan, St. Edwards, Texas State, Texas Tech, and UT Pan American. Baylor will also send players to compete solely as individuals.

"We face a good field and a good golf course at Onion Creek," Knight said. "It will be a much different style of course than we have been playing on, but that is what makes golf great."

Live stats of the Challenge at Onion Creek can be followed on www.birdiefire.com and recaps of the tournament will be posted on www.kstatesports.com at the conclusion of play on Monday and Tuesday.
