MANHATTAN, Kan.- The Kansas State women's golf team returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Diane Thomason Invitational at the par-72, 6,212 yard Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Saturday followed by the final 18 holes on Monday with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start both days.
For the first time this season, K-State will send the scoring lineup of junior Carly Ragains, senior Gianna Misenhelter, freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol, junior Olivia Eliasson and sophomore Scotland Preston.
The Wildcats are coming off a seventh-place finish at the Challenge at Onion Creek two weeks ago.
"Since the Challenge at Onion Creek, we have been focusing on the short game," head coach Kristi Knight said. "No matter how our ball striking is on any given day, how good we are around the green will determine where we are on the leaderboard."
Ragains leads the team in stroke average at 76.22 and has placed in the top-20 in all three tournaments this season. Her best finish came at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational where she finished at a tie for sixth.
Eliasson follows closely with a 75.66 stroke average. She has carded the lowest 18-hole score with a 69 and best finish in a tournament, both of which occurred at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational.
Preston will make her season debut in the scoring lineup. She has only competed this season as an individual at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational where she carded a 42-over par 258 to finish at a tie for 66th.
Kansas State will be joined in the event by Campbell, Chattanooga, GRU Augusta, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, Ohio State, USF and Wisconsin.
