LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Kansas State women's golf team sits in 12th place after Sunday's first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Stallion Mountain Golf Club. As a team, the Wildcats shot 299 (+11) and enter the second round 11 shots behind leaders UNLV.
"I was proud of how we competed today," head coach Kristi Knight said. "We played a lot of good holes and the leaderboard is not separated by many shots."
Junior Carly Ragains led the scoring charge for the Wildcats by firing a 1-over par 73 to finish the first round at a tie for 21st. She is just three strokes off the leader, Elin Arvidsson from Texas Tech.
Completing round one two strokes behind Ragains were senior Gianna Misenhelter and junior Oliva Eliasson. The duo carded a 3-over par 75 and enter Monday's second round at a tie for 43rd.
Eliasson led all competitors in par-4 scoring by carding 2-under par. Freshman Katherine Gravel-Coursol completed the scoring lineup for the Wildcats by shooting a 4-over par 76.
"There is a lot of golf left and we need to keep the consistency going to move up the leaderboard," Knight said.
The second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown will begin Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. (PT). Live results of the tournament can be viewed at www.golfstat.com, while a complete recap will be posted at kstatesports.com following the conclusion of the round.
