Athlete Q&A
How is rowing different than other sports you've been involved in?
Rowing is extremely different than any other sport I've been involved in. I think it's so different because it's so foreign to Midwesterners. My non-rowing friends really don't understand how much of a time commitment or challenge rowing actually is. Most of them just think we go paddle around the lake in the morning in weird-shaped boat. Until you have been a part of a rowing team, you can't truly understand what it is like to be a rower.

What is your favorite memory from this past season?
My favorite memory from this past season was on Friday, January 31st at roughly 8:30AM when Sweeney told me "good" after a 4x1000m erg workout.

What was it like to walk on to the team?
I was very hesitant walking onto the rowing team. I knew nothing about rowing. I, like most rowing neophytes, thought it was all arms. It was reassuring to find out that all the other freshmen knew nothing about rowing as well and we were all in the same boat, literally. The coaches did an excellent job of weaning you into the sport. You are taught everything you need to know, you just have to have the work-ethic.
