Athlete Q&A
How is rowing different than other sports you've been involved in?
Rowing is different from any other sport that I have been involved in because it is 100% a team sport. In other sports, there is a chance for one person to be the all-star or MVP, but in rowing all people are equally important. As a boat, you win and lose together and one person is not more responsible for the outcome than another.

What has rowing taught you about yourself?
Rowing has taught me a lot about myself, but most importantly how to be a good leader. As a coxswain, you are automatically thrust into the position of a leader, but that doesn't always mean you will be effective. Rowing has taught me that in order to be a good leader, you have to know the personalities of the people you are leading. How they are motivated, what matters most to them, and how to help them achieve their best.

What keeps you coming back to the team each year?
One of the main reasons I keep returning to the team is the people you are surrounded by. Your teammates not only become your friends, but also your family. From being on this team, I have developed some of the best friendships of my life and I am very grateful for that opportunity.
