19 Rowers Receive Conference USA Academic Medal

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Conference USA handed out its Commissioner’s Academic Medal for the 2012-13 academic year on Wednesday with a total of 538 student-athletes receiving the award including 19 rowers from Kansas State. The Commissioner’s Academic Medal is awarded to student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.

The following K-State rowers received the Commissioner’s Academic Medal: Katie Arrow, Alexis Cunningham, Elizabeth DeMars, Allison Dorau, Mary Rose Eakes, Courtney Faucett, Samantha McCloud, Katie Mulich, Megan Murray, Anna Nusser, Kara Omo, Sarah Pennington, Rachel Plotas, Karlee Rainbolt, Miranda Rickel, Elizabeth Stricker, Arian Thompson and Abigail Weaver.

This year’s total of 19 rowers being recognized for their excellent GPA’s exceeds last year’s total of 15 who received the Commissioner’s Academic Medal. Seven Wildcats receive the honor for the second straight year.

K-State is an affiliate of C-USA for rowing only joining the conference in 2010 along with Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas from the Big 12. Alabama and Tennessee also joined C-USA for rowing from the SEC to give C-USA a total of nine schools competing in rowing.
