May 16, 2014MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State Women’s Rowing had a conference-leading three athletes named to the Conference USA Rowing All-Academic Team. Comprised of 15 total athletes, representing the Wildcats were Allison Dorau, Meggie Murray and Abby Weaver.
This is the second-straight season Dorau has been named to the All-Academic Team, as she finished her final year at K-State with a 3.91 grade point average in Elementary Education and Spanish. On the water, Dorau, a native of Lenexa, Kan., has competed on the 1st Varsity 8 all season, earning All-Big 12 First Team honors, as well as helping the Wildcats to a program-best second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship.
For Murray, this is the first time she has been awarded this accolade. A team co-captain, Murray competed alongside Dorau on the 1V8 this season and was named All-Big 12 Second Team. She closed her junior year at K-State with 3.93 GPA in Dietetics, Spanish and Kinesiology.
Lastly, Weaver, who studies Mechanical Engineering and Physics, was one of only three rowers to be nominated with a 4.00 GPA. Also her first timing being nominated, Weaver spent her senior year competing on the 1V8 with Dorau and Murray.
For all three athletes, this marks yet another academic accomplishment to go along with their success on the water. Along with the latest C-USA honor, the three Wildcat were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rowing Team, C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and are three-time C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal recipients.
Murray and Weaver, along with teammates Beth DeMars and Jennifer Smisek were also announced as winners of the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, which is the Big 12’s highest academic honor.
The Conference USA All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.20 cumulative GPA or better and are key contributors to their team. Nomination and voting is done by the league’s sports information directors.
The Wildcats are in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, this weekend for the 2014 Conference USA Rowing Championship held on Melton Hill Lake. The all-day event will take place this Saturday, May 17.
