LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 50 Kansas State received a hard-fought three-set win from Ana Gomez Aleman at number five singles to seal a 4-3 K-State win over Kansas on Saturday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. The win moves K-State’s winning streak over Kansas to five straight matches and K-State’s overall current win streak to three matches. K-State owns an overall record of 7-6 and is 1-2 in Big 12 action, while KU falls to 8-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.

After KU secured the doubles point, K-State captured three of the next four singles points to take a 3-2 lead. Freshman Ivana Kubickova started the Wildcats on the right foot with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Paulina Los at number three singles. Kubickova, a product of Brno, Czech Republic, secured her second career Big 12 win and improved her rookie season record to 19-12.

At the top position in the K-State singles lineup, No. 11 ranked Petra Niedermayerova won her 12th match this spring (12-1) and her fifth straight with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Maria Jose Cardona to give K-State a 2-1 lead. With the win, Niedermayerova recorded her 26th win this season (26-6) and ties her for third in school history with Karin Lusnic (1991-92, 26-13). She is 20-4 this season in straight set matches and 60-16 in her career in straight sets.

Niedermayerova, a junior from Brno, Czech Republic, ranks fourth on the K-State single-season wins list with a record of 74-29 (.718) and needs three wins to move into a three-way tie for second with Petra Sedlmajerova (1999-03; 77-47) and Jessica Simosa (2001-06; 77-61). She needs five wins to move into a tie for first with Maria Rosenberg (2000-05; 79-54).

Following a KU win at number six singles, senior Karla Bonacic brought K-State back into the lead, 3-2, with a 7-6, 6-3 win at number two singles over Maria Belen Luduena. Bonacic owns a career record of 52-18 in dual match action, including a 30-11 mark from the No. 2 position in the lineup.

Dating back to the final three matches of 2010, Bonacic has won 44 of her last 55 dual matches. For her career, Bonacic is fifth in school history for career singles wins with a mark of 68-40 (.630).

Kansas squared the match at three apiece with a three-set win at number four singles. Gomez Aleman sealed the win for the Wildcats with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Anastasija Trubica at number five singles. Gomez Aleman tallied her second straight three-set win, after downing Anneka Watts of Fresno State in three-sets on March 18. The product of Murcia, Spain, is now 42-66 in her career.

K-State will conclude its 12-match road trip next weekend, as the Wildcats will travel to the state of Texas to face No. 42 TCU on Friday, April 5 and No. 34 Baylor on Sunday, April 7.
