LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas State women’s tennis put an end to its October schedule with a strong outing on Sunday, as the Wildcats secured three singles victories including a tournament crown at the Kansas Invitational.
Karla Bonacic capped her dominating weekend with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ksenia Pronina of Iowa State in the Draw A finals. Bonacic has now won three straight matches and is 4-2 this fall. Overall, the junior from Split, Croatia is 37-26 in her career and 26-24 in straight set matches.
Putting an end to a personal five-match skid on Sunday was junior Carmen Borau Ramos. The native of San Bernardo, Spain dispatched of Jillian Yakominich of UMKC in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Borau Ramos now owns a 3-6 mark this fall.
Notching her second victory of the weekend was senior Petra Chuda. Chuda, a product of Sokolnice, Czech Republic, brushed off Jenna Langhorst of Iowa State in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. The win was Chuda’s first in straight sets this season. Chuda entered the weekend with a personal four-match skid, but came away with a pair of victories to boost her fall mark to 3-6 and her career record in fall matches to 18-23.
As a team, the Wildcats will now have a week to prepare for the Thunderbird Invitational, Nov. 4-6, in Tempe, Ariz.
